Don’t Overlook the Quiet Performers…

They’re not the loudest.
They’re not the ones constantly reminding you of what they’ve done.
But they’re there.
Day in, day out.
Getting things done. Holding the place together.

I’ve worked in enough hotels to tell you, some of the best people on my teams weren’t the ones who always raise their hands. They were the ones everyone relied on, sometimes without even realizing it.
The night auditor who catches a $15,000 billing error before it hits the owner’s inbox.
The housekeeper who trains every new hire because “someone has to make sure they do it right.”
The front desk agent who quietly turns angry guests into returning customers without ever escalating it.

They’re not chasing attention.
They’re chasing excellence.
And yet, they’re often overlooked. Passed up. Forgotten when opportunities come around.
Why? Because most leaders have been conditioned to reward volume over value.
But here’s the thing: quiet doesn’t mean passive.
Quiet can mean focused. Thoughtful. Strategic.

One of my former mentors once told me, “It’s the ones who don’t say much you should pay the most attention to, they’re usually the ones making sure the wheels don’t fall off.”
And they were right!

Some of the most capable leaders I’ve promoted started out as the behind-the-scenes glue. The ones who didn’t need the spotlight, just a chance.
So how do you invest in them?

Start by noticing. Acknowledging. Call out their wins publicly. Offer them a stretch assignment. Ask what growth looks like for them and help build the path.
Even a simple “I see what you’re doing, and it matters” can go a long way.
Because without them, your operation doesn’t run, it unravels.

So, here’s your reminder:
Who’s your quiet performer?
Have you told them lately how much they matter?
